KARACHI: The Supreme Court, in response to the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE)’s letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has ordered the Interior Ministry, the Government of Pakistan, to present it the 15-day report on search for the killers of the journalists, murdered in 2009, within 15 days.

The apex court also ordered the ministry to send its copy to the CPNE secretary general besides ensuring arrest of the accused involved in these cases without any delay. According to a CPNE press release, the Supreme Court issued this order after taking notice of a letter written by CPNE President Khushnood Ali Khan to the chief justice in which he had drawn the apex court’s attention towards the killings of journalists so that such kind of incidents could be stopped.

The killed journalists include Raja Asad Hameed (Waqt Channel and The Nation, Rawalpindi), Tariq Malik (Dawn News, Lahore), Amir Wakeel (Rawalpindi), Muneer Sangi (Larkana) and Moosa Khan (Swat).
