Karachi: Unidentified criminals kidnapped a serving Lieutenant-Colonel of the Pakistan Army along with his two friends from the Gadap City Police limits.
Investigators suspected some militant organisation but some opined that it could be a ransom kidnapping. Intelligence sources said that the intelligence agencies of the Pakistan Army, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Sindh, Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Karachi, and other investigating units are jointly investigating the case.
Lt.-Col. Anees-ur-Rehman and his friends Mohammed Khalid and Arshad Lodhi were kidnapped from remit of the Gadap City police station. Police said that, an FIR was lodged on complaint of Najamuddin, a nephew of Mohammed Khalid.
They added that the FIR stated that Col. Rehman, along with his friends, on Thursday went to Gadap City area to see a land for a business. Later, he, along with his friends, Khalid and Lodhi, went to his own farmhouse where after they offering Maghrib prayers, and later headed for their respective residences. On their way, they were kidnapped, along with their car, by unidentified suspects. Investigators said that the Mehran car was recovered from Sanwal Goth, near the Afghan Camp police post.
They added that after the kidnapping, the cell phones of all the three were switched off and thus far no call had been received from any persons regarding information of kidnapping or claiming responsibility for kidnapping the same.
Col. Rehman is presently posted at the Frontier Constabulary Quetta (Balochistan), a resident of Shadman Town area. Currently he was on leave and was in town on vacation.
They added that kidnapped Mohammed Khalid was a trader running a dairy Farm in Memon Goth, while kidnapped Arshad Lodhi was a contractor of Sui Sothern Gas Company, owned six CNG Stations at Super Highway. Intelligence sources said that, the probing teams had salvaged the cell phone records of the kidnapped persons and also visited the place from where the three were kidnapped. They’ve even determined the location of the kidnapping through RBS.
