Sexual assault: ministry orders separate inquiry

ISLAMABAD: The ministry of women development has ordered a separate inquiry into the case of sexual assault on a 13-year-old girl by policemen in Wah Cantonment.

Adviser to the prime minister on women development, Yasmin Rahman, has referred the case to Gender Crime Cell working under the ministry of interior and asked it to submit compliance report.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif has also ordered inquiry into the case.

Ms Yasmin Rahman said that torture given to the victim was intolerable and the government would do all to curb such excesses. “We are working for the development of downtrodden segments of the society and we will never let anybody to subject them to such humiliation,” she said.

“Her ministry has taken this issue very seriously and the affected girl would soon get justice,” she said and added strict action would be taken against the policemen involved in this heinous crime.

Meanwhile, former minister for information and broadcasting Sherry Rehman called for exemplary punishment to the policemen. She was talking to the local PPP and mediapersons at the victim’s house in Wah Cantonment.

She visited the victim’s house and assured that the culprits would be punished.
