On November 20, the Sindh cabinet approved the allocation of 639 additional residential plots for eligible members of the Karachi Press Club (KPC), concluding a long-pending request from the organisation. The approval, granted during a cabinet meeting, adds to the 1,271 plots previously allotted through the Lyari Development Authority (LDA).
The cabinet approved the proposal after confirming that the KPC’s earlier request for 700 plots had been verified to cover 639 eligible members. Following the approval, the KPC president, secretary, and governing body members issued a statement expressing gratitude to the Sindh government and the chief minister.
In a separate agenda item, the cabinet reviewed a local government proposal regarding plot allotment for KPC members in Malir Development Authority (MDA) projects, including the New Malir Housing Scheme-I (Block-12) and Taiser Town Scheme-45 (Sectors 22 and 23). The cabinet was informed that the MDA governing body had decided on 16 October 2024 that land and development costs would be shared under the already approved 80/20 policy, with the Sindh government bearing 80% and KPC members contributing 20%.
Officials further briefed the cabinet that computerised balloting for these plots had previously been conducted in 2014 and 2018, and that a committee headed by the Secretary Information Department had endorsed the 80/20 cost-sharing arrangement.
