Karachi: A demand to provide social security to the domestic workers was made at a meeting organised by Action Aid Pakistan, in collaboration with the Labour Education Foundation (LEF). It was pointed out that majority of the workers in the country are female and that most of them work as domestic workers.
However, there is no law in place to safeguard their interests nor is social security provision available to them.
The participants at the meeting pointed out that the domestic workers are also not provided with appropriate remuneration for the tasks they perform.
Hence, the government should ratify ILO’s convention pertaining to the home based workers and demanded that a law be framed in this respect.
