On September 27, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Bureau Journalists Association (RIBJA) for the 2026-27 term.

Syed Mujahid Naqvi was elected president, Nusrat Abbas Shah vice president, Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq general secretary and Haji Abdul Aziz finance secretary, among other office-bearers.

Sadiq said the election reflected the confidence of RIBJA members in the new leadership and expressed hope that it would work for journalists’ welfare, professional interests and the challenges facing the media community in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

He highlighted the role of journalism in strengthening democracy and public awareness and stressed the importance of a free,responsible and unbiased press in providing accurate and timely information. He also acknowledged the contribution of journalists from Rawalpindi and Islamabad in highlighting issues of national importance.
