HYDERABAD, June 9 2006: District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput has said phase-wise training programme for 357 women councillors of union councils, Taluka councils and the District Council of Hyderabad has been arranged to enhance their capacity building and to ensure efficient delivery of local government system at grassroots level.
He said this on May 8 while presiding over a concluding session of the first 4-day training programme of women councillors here. He said the programme is also aimed at encouraging the womenfolk in the political system and society. He said training is being provided to them under the Women Political School (WPS) project of the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) that is being implemented with the collaboration of the Ministry of Women Development and local government concerned as well. He said under the first phase, out of 357 women councillors of the district, 195 have completed their four daysà training course which started from June 5 at five different centres, where a remuneration of Rs 1,300 has also been provided to each participant for their daily expenses. He said the women councillors of the district have already been provided training from May 2 to 17 in Karachi.
