THATTA: Sindh Minister for Culture Sassui Palijo and writers and poets paid glowing tribute to the second last ruler of Samma dynasty (1461 to 1508) Jam Nizamuddin alias Jam Nindo at a solemn ceremony held at Makli Necropolis on Saturday night.

The ceremony, organised by Sindh Samma Welfare Organisation on his 503rd death anniversary, was also addressed by Dr. Mohammad Ali Manjhi, Mohammad Ashraf Samoon, Haji Siddique and Dada Ahmed Khan.

Ms Palijo said Jam Nizamuddin who ruled Sindh which in those days included places as far apart as Gujrat and Sibbi for over 48 years, was a seeker of knowledge and truth.

She announced that the annual Urs of Jam Nizamuddin would be officially organised by the Sindh culture department from next year and that her department had decided to maintain, protect and promote the historical and heritage sites.

She said that the handing over of Mohen Jo Daro to Sindh government was a success of the PPP government and a notification in this regard would be issued soon.

Historian Dr Mohammad Ali Manjhi said the Jam had spent much of his time on discourses with the learned of the times.
In his time Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi proposed through his two disciples – Mir Shams and Mir Muneen – to proceed from Shiraz to Sindh, and asked for a place to stay in Thatta.

The three-day event concluded with the prayers for the prosperity of Sindh.

Earlier, Ms Palijo laid a floral wreath on the mazar of Jam Nizamuddin.
