TV Anchor Ayesha Jahanzeb’s Husband Arrested for Domestic Abuse
On July 10, prominent anchor Ayesha Jahanzeb was allegedly subjected to torture by her husband, Haris Ali. Jahanzeb sustained bruises and other injuries and filed a police report against Ali, who was subsequently arrested and remanded for two days.
Jahanzeb stated that her husband had been abusive for a few months after their marriage in 2015. She endured the abuse for the sake of her children. Still, the violence escalated to the point where she was physically assaulted multiple times this year, including a severe incident at the gate of her residence.
Neighbors witnessed the assault, during which Ali also allegedly pointed a gun and threatened those who tried to intervene. Jahanzeb’s driver and an electrician eventually rescued her. She revealed in an interview with Samaa TV, where she hosts a show, that this was the fourth incident of physical abuse this year and that she had recently been divorced by her husband.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and ordered a report from the Inspector General of Police. She has also instructed that Jahanzeb be provided with the best possible medical care.
