WASHINGTON: The US State Department said on Tuesday that Pakistani journalist Saleem Shahzad’s murder was a gross violation of human rights and it required full investigation.

“We’ve raised our concerns about this case with the Pakistani government,” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told a briefing in Washington.

“Anywhere in the world killing an innocent journalist is a gross violation of human rights and needs to be investigated,” she added.

Asked to comment on the NYT report that a spy agency was involved in his murder, the official said she would not comment on intelligence matters.
