On August 14, Akhlaq Ahmad Bajwa, a senior journalist and the President of the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery, passed away after a battle with cancer. Bajwa had been a journalist for over 20 years, working with various newspapers and TV channels. In 2022, he was elected as the President of the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over Bajwa’s passing. She praised his contributions to journalism, saying, “Akhlaq Ahmad Bajwa’s dedication and honesty in his work have left a lasting impact. He will be greatly missed.”
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, also shared his grief, highlighting Bajwa’s commitment to truth and journalism. “The loss of Akhlaq Bajwa is a huge blow to our community,” he said.
His funeral took place on the same day at the Sultanpura graveyard, where many people, including notable figures like Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan and senior journalists, gathered to pay their respects.
Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan also expressed his condolences, recognizing Bajwa’s important role in the Punjab Assembly Press Gallery. He acknowledged Bajwa’s leadership and tireless efforts in promoting the interests of the journalistic community within the Assembly. “Akhlaq Ahmad Bajwa was a pillar of strength in our press gallery, always advocating for the rights and responsibilities of journalists. His absence will be deeply felt,” the Speaker stated.
