KARACHI: A.M.A. Qaiyum, a veteran journalist and trade union leader, died here on here on Tuesday. He was laid to rest at Sakhi Hasan graveyard on Wednesday.
Fateha Soyem will be held after Friday prayers at the Sharfabad mosque for men while for the ladies arrangements have been made at his residence house no. 355, 20th street, Sharfabad.
A former senior sub-editor at the now closed Morning News, Mr. Qaiyum took active part in the journalists trade union movement. He was former vice-president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and a former president of the Karachi Union of Journalists.
The last rites were attended by a large number of journalists. Tributes were paid to him among others, by Abdul Hamid Chappra, who lauded his dedication to the cause of the freedom of the press.
In a statement, the president and general secretary of Karachi Union of Journalist have also consoled the death of Mr. Qaiyum
