SAHIWAL: A local civil society organization in collaboration with the Mobile Registration Vans (MRVs) from Nadra`s regional office in Multan has mobilized 10,500 villagers for the registration of new CNICs in two National Assembly constituencies during the last eight months.

At least 55 per cent new CNICs were developed for rural women, Dawn learnt from reliable sources.

It is learnt that Nadra, in association with partner organizations of Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN), is running a campaign and has been providing MRVs assistance for developing new CNICs in rural localities of different NA constituencies across Pakistan.

Sujag being one of FAFEN`s partner is working in NA 160 and 161 constituencies in the Sahiwal district.

Under the procedure, the Nadra in Multan region dispatched MRVs to different villages on request.

Under the scheme, villages and rural localities are traced where villagers still do not have CNICs. “This is done by making contacts with different political stakeholders, including activists of different political parties”, said Alweera, the Sujag constituency coordinator.

Ms Alweera said the drive was rural-based and the village women were motivated to get CNICs “as this is the basic document of our citizenship”. Local contacts were traced and personal meetings were fixed with them in the village.

During meeting the MRV stay location, expected rural applicants, required days for covering applicants and availability of village lumberdar for attestation of CNICs forms at the MRV place were ensured.

“On getting assurance of these matters the Nadra dispatches MRVs to a said village under a schedule”, a Nadra official said.

Ms Alweera said that villages facilitated in developing CNICs were: 56/GD, 57/GD, Muhammadpur, Dolla Bala, 81/5-R, 78/5-R, 65/GD, 73/5-L, 71/5-L, 51/5-L, 66/4-R, 77/5-R, 76/7-R 86/6-R, 102/9-L and 114/9-L.

Fayyaz said the MRV stayed at his village 86/6-R for three days and around 75 per cent women got registered with Nadra.
