Karachi: A murder mystery of a fish trader who was killed earlier this month has reportedly been solved. The deceased trader was killed by his wife who had paid Rs15 million to the killer.

Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Gulberg police station said that on February 5 a body of a man bearing torture marks was found in a gunny bag lying near the APWA College, Gulberg. The police recovered the body which was later identified as Abdul Manan, a trader of fish who was running his business in Moosa Colony, Machchi Market. His murder FIR was lodged by his wife Naseema against unknown persons.

During the course of investigation, it was found that the medical reports stated that the deceased was first brutally tortured and later the criminals poured acid on his body so that he could not be identified.

The SIO added that Naseema, who lodged the FIR of murder at the Gulberg police station, in her statement said that her husband Manan had left the house late in the night but did not return. She added that she was his second wife and that they had no enmity with anyone.

The investigation team then began recording the statements of the deceased’s relatives. During investigations, one of the relatives of the deceased told the police that Manan had married Naseema two years back, and after marrying her, went to Bangladesh. There he married for a third time and was deciding to bring his third wife to Pakistan. Naseema was not happy with this and daily quarrelled with Manan.

While they were investigating the matter, Razia Khatoon (first wife of Manan) visited the Gulberg police station to file about a missing report. There she was shown a picture of a deceased man, whom she immediately identified the deceased as her husband.

Khatoon in her statement told the police that she was the first wife of deceased Manan and they had two daughters and both were married. One of them was settled in Bangladesh while she was residing with her second daughter Amana in Sector-36H, Lyari Expressway, Surjani Town.

She added that, a few days back, Naseema, the second wife of her husband, visited her house in a disturbed state. First, Khatoon said, she asked Naseema the reason for coming over, since, after marrying Manan, she (Naseema) had never visited the house. Khatoon asked Naseema about their husband, upon which she replied that she didn’t know where he was. She told Khatoon that he was missing for the past many days and there was no clue of his whereabouts.

Khatoon said she suspected something foul and that’s why she had come to the Gulberg police station to lodge a missing complaint of her husband Manan. There, the police told her that her husband had been murdered and an FIR in this regard had already been lodged by Naseema.

She immediately went to the Investigation Office and met with SIO Nazar Mohammed who had shown her the picture of Manan. She told him that she suspected Naseema. She informed the investigators that Naseema was present at her house, after which the investigation team carried out a raid at Khatoon’s house.

During questioning, Naseema confessed her crime and narrated that she married Manan some two years back and also gave him a share in her business. During this period Manan went to Bangladesh for work and returned after two to three months.

She added that about three to four months back a relative of hers from Bangladesh told her that Manan had married for the third time in Bangladesh and was planning to shift the girl to Karachi. She confirmed this with Manan.

During the month of January, she had met with one Bilal, who worked with her husband in Moosa Colony, Machchi Market, and offered him money to kill her husband. Bilal, according to Naseema, agreed, after which they planned that they would kidnap Manan when he was returning from work at night.

After kidnapping him, they locked him in a room where he was tortured and later they threw acid on his body and killed him. She further told the investigators that she had paid Rs150,000 to accused Bilal for committing this offence. Further probe is under way.
