On January 25, a judicial magistrate in Karachi remanded a YouTuber, Mudasir Khan, into the custody of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in a case registered under multiple sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (Peca). The case stems from allegations of defamation, offences against dignity, and the dissemination of false information.
According to the NCCIA, Khan was arrested from Islamabad on January 22. Officials subsequently obtained a transit remand from a local court in the capital before presenting him before the judicial magistrate (South) in Karachi on January 24. The investigators requested his physical remand to conduct further interrogation.
The FIR was lodged by Nawabzadi Alia Dilawar Khanji, who accused the YouTuber of committing offences under Sections 20, 21-D, and 26-A of Peca. She stated that Khan had repeatedly disseminated false information and propaganda allegedly provided by Ali Murtaza Khanji and his associates. The FIR further records that the complainant accused the suspect of violating her dignity, privacy, and modesty, as well as that of her family.
The NCCIA reported that a vlog titled “The Legend” was reviewed during the initial investigation. Technical analysis of the content allegedly showed that the YouTuber had used derogatory remarks and engaged in character assassination targeting the complainant and the family of the Nawab of Junagadh.
The investigating officer, Ameer Ali Khoso, informed the court that the suspect had been apprehended in Islamabad and that a transit remand had been obtained prior to transferring him to Karachi.
