The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) summoned Noreen Niazi, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, for allegedly spreading “false, offensive and inflammatory” content against state institutions on social media. The notice, dated July 18, required her to appear at the NCCIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad on July 20.
The notice did not specify the content for which she had been summoned; however, it was issued after an interview Noreen gave to a YouTube channel, where she made controversial claims about the Pakistan Army and Maarka-e-Haq.
The notice warned Niazi that non-compliance with the summons will be seen as an admission of guilt and could lead to action under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and other ministers have condemned Noreen’s statements and have called for her to apologise.
