LAHORE, Aug 03 2006: The Punjab Prisons Department has, in compliance with a presidential ordinance, released on bail 405 under-trial women prisoners confined in different jails of the province, since July 10. The deputy inspector-general of prisons Punjab, Salik Jalal, told APP here on Aug 02 that 555 eligible women prisoners of a total of 710 had moved applications for bail, and 405 have so far been released. “The DIGs of Prisons, superintendents central and district jails across the province have been directed to contact district and sessions judges and DCOs of their areas, to arrange visits of judicial officers to local jails for granting bail to eligible female prisoners,” he said.
