ISLAMABAD: A total of 59,962 cases of human rights violations have been registered during the last three years in the country, Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Farooq H Naek told the National Assembly (NA) on Monday.
In a written reply to a question raised by member of the NA (MNA) Shakeela Khanam Rashid, Naek gave the province-wise breakdown of cases registered between 2005 and 2007 as Punjab (18,746), Sindh (5,668), the NWFP (34,296) and Balochistan (1,252).
He said the Human Rights Division, which was the focal entity of the federation on human rights, kept a close liaison with provincial governments, non-government organisations and the international community in order to introduce measures for the curbing of human rights violations.
