AIOU to launch satellite TV

ISLAMABAD: The Allama Iqbal Open University will launch a satellite TV channel to promote quality education especially in far-lung areas of the country.

Speaking at a press conference, AIOU Vice Chancellor Mahmoodul Hassan Bhutt said the Planning Commission had approved the project worth Rs 390 million to launch the channel for its targeted population. He said the university would also establish more FM radio stations across the country and the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) was being consulted to work out arrangements in this regard.

Bhutt said the AIOU had enrolled 485,000 students for this semester in more than 1,300 courses and the AIOU would hold a three-day conference to be attended by the prominent scholars to promote the philosophy of Ijtihad in light of Allama Iqbal’s teachings this Sunday.

He also asked the media to play its role in promoting Allama Iqbal’s teachings of peace, love and harmony especially at a time when sporadic terrorist incidents were taking place in the country.
