ISLAMABAD- The working group of APNS and CPNE held a meeting with the officials of Ministry of Information and Media Development.
The meeting discussed in detail the draft of Registration of Press and Publication Ordinance (RPPO) and agreed that APNS and CPNE will send a unanimous draft to the Ministry by December 18.
The draft will be finalised in the joint meeting of APNS, CPNE and Information Ministry to be held in the second week of January 2001.
The representative organizations of the newspaper industry expressed desire for the promulgation of the draft at the earliest for the smooth functioning of the print media.
APNS was represented by Mir shakil-ur-Rehman, Arshad Zubari, Zia Shahid, Jamil Athar and Jabbar Khattak whereas the CPNE was represented by Arif Nizami, Fasih lqbal and Mujib-ur-Rehman Shami.
The Ministry of Information was represented by Secretary, Syed Anwar Mahmood, DG PBC Salim Gul Shaikh, Principal Information Officer, Ashaq Gondal and DG IP, I.N. Abbasi.
According to another report, a delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) called on the Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz. The delegation apprised the Minister about the issues facing the newspaper industry.
The Finance Minister told them that the government was fully conscious of the nature of the problems and assured that all the efforts would be made to resolve them. The delegation will meet the Minister again.
The meeting was attended by Mir Shakilur Rehman, Arif Nizami. Mujibur Rehman Shami, Zia Shahid, Arshad Zuberi, Fasih lqbal and others.
