All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) seeks abolition of duties on newsprint

LAHORE- Local members of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) in a meeting have appealed to the Chief Executive (CE) General Pervez Musharraf to take note of the rising prices of newsprint in the international markets which has bought the newspaper industry to a virtual collapse.

The meeting was presided by the Senior Vice President of APNS Jamil Azhar who stressed upon the CE to abolish the duties and taxes on the import of newsprint so that the industry could survive.

The meeting reminded the CE of his instructions given to the than information minister for redressing the grievances of the newspaper industry. The meeting also stressed upon the APNS President Mir Shakilur Rehman to call a meeting of the APNS Executive Committee without any delay to solve, this pressing issue.

The meeting was attended by Arif Nizami, Shaheen Qureshi, Zia Shahid, Mujibur Rehman Shami, Mustafa Sadiq, Jamil Azhar, Syed Sajjad Bukhari and Mumtaz Tahir.
