LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Wednesday reserved judgement on a petition challenging ban on journalists’ entry in accountability courts, anti-terrorist courts, special courts and tribunals to perform their duties.
Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed was hearing a petition filed by a journalist Wasim Farooq through his counsel Muhammad Azhar siddique submitting that the said ban on journalists was a sheer violation of articles 19 and 19-A of the constitution which explains that access to information was fundamental right of every citizen.
He said this act is tantamount to stifling of media.
He prayed the court to issue directions to federal and provincial governments to lift ban on journalists’ entrance and rather facilitate them.
Earlier, the court had formed a committee to resolve issue which had submitted its recommendations.
