KARACHI, May 13: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday restrained two commercial banks from harassing an alleged defaulter and issued notices to five banks, a police official, the home department and finance secretaries for June 5.

A businessman, Mairajuddin Ahmed, in his petition submitted that he had been a customer of Bank Al Falah, ABN Amro, Askari Commercial, Citibank and Standard Chartered since 2000. He said he availed himself of credit card and personal loan facilities over the past some years. He alleged that bank recovery departments made threatening calls and sent teams to his residence who humiliated him and his family members due to non-payment.

He claimed that he had sought police protection though he received none.–PPI
