A judicial magistrate granted post-arrest bail to anchor person Iqrarul Hassan on October 31, following allegations that he disseminated anti-state content via his social media channels. The magistrate observed that the interim charge sheet did not provide sufficient grounds to justify his continued detention.
Judicial Magistrate (East) Gulraiz Memon approved the bail against a solvent surety and personal bond of Rs 200,000 each. The court noted that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) seized the relevant electronic devices and completed an initial technical report, making further custodial interrogation unnecessary.
The prosecution alleged that Hassan uploaded content criticising constitutional and administrative measures with the intention of inciting public disaffection against state institutions. However, the court observed that the case primarily relied on electronic and documentary evidence already secured by the agency, with no apparent risk of evidence tampering.
Hassan’s defence argued that the interim charge sheet provided new grounds for bail and that certain offences under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) were bailable or did not fall within the prohibitory clause. The NCCIA prosecutor opposed the application, but the court granted bail.
