On June 1, the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) announced its Punjab Committee for the term 2026-27, focusing on developing the print media sector and protecting interests for CPNE members in Punjab. The announcement outlined the responsibilities and composition of the committee which will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the interests of CPNE member newspapers and magazines.
Mian Hassan Ahmed has been appointed as the Chairman of the Punjab Committee, with Ayaz Khan serving as the Deputy Chairman. The committee comprises several key figures in the media industry including Kazim Khan, Irshad Ahmed Arif, and Babar Nizami among others. Their responsibilities include organizing media-related activities like workshops and seminars to enhance professional standards in journalism. Additionally, they will assist in organizing CPNE meetings and events across Punjab and handle assignments from the Secretary General and the Standing Committee.
Earlier on May 19, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Committee was formed. It will be chaired by Tahir Farooq with Masood Khan as the Deputy Chairman. This committee also includes others such as Adnan Zafar and Rahatullah Khan. Their duties mirror those of the Punjab Committee, focusing on the enhancement of print media standards through various events, workshops and seminars. They will also support the Standing Committee in implementing tasks and organizing CPNE-related events within the province.
The committee is tasked with reviewing press-related matters and presenting them to the Standing Committee. They will also arrange various programs to underscore the significance of the press in society.
