GILGIT: The newly-appointed Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Pir Karam Ali Shah on Tuesday took oath of his office in a simple but very impressive ceremony held here.
The ceremony was organised in the historic Chinar Bagh as the Chief Judge of the Supreme Appellate Court Gilgit-Baltistan Justice Nawaz Abbasi administered the oath of the office to the governor after recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.
In a small conversation with reporters after laying floral wreath on the graveyards of martyrs at the end of oath-taking ceremony Pir Karam Ali Shah emphasised that he would work to help establish durable peace in the region so that developmental activities could continue without any hindrance and the people could reap the fruits of progress. He appealed to the citizens of Gilgit-Baltistan to join hands to bring about peace and prosperity in the region.
He thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for reposing trust on him and held out assurance that he will work for the promotion of brotherhood. He advised people to be tolerant and respect co-existence.
The chief minister Gilgit-Baltistan was also present on the occasion.
