RAWALPINDI: People are well aware how the rulers, whether they belonged to the govt or establishment, handled the situation in the wake of Osama bin Laden’s killing in US raid in Abbottabad, says a Geo spokesman.

He said the contradictions in the statements of authorities in this regard were also known to all and sundry. Almost every section of the society including civil society and media criticised the way the situation was handled, he said.

According to the spokesman, it is said the Abbottabad incident is the biggest after the fall of Dhaka. This is also a very big incident for the entire world. The way it was handled created may dangers for the country. There was great disappointment among the people. Geo programmes should be viewed in this context and the Geo criticism must be taken as positive. Geo criticism was for improvement in the situation, the spokesman said.

He said the country could be made strong only if media is allowed to comment and inform the people independently. Other countries, he said, have gained strength after adhering to truth. The Geo management, according to the spokesman, would challenge in the court the Pemra allegation of ‘maligning’ the government and armed forces. The Geo management would prove that the allegations against it are baseless. People know at whose behest the allegations are being levelled against Geo. People have also witnessed that Geo neutrality stands proved as it criticised institutions when they erred. The propaganda that Geo is only against the government also proved wrong.
