Illegal takeover of press club slammed

KHAIRPUR: The journalists of Ghotki observed a hunger strike on Saturday against the forced occupation of the National Press Club, Obaro, by a provincial minister.

A protest rally was also taken out to condemn the heinous act of Minister Jam Mehtab Mahar. Briefing politicians and social workers

visiting the protest camp, NPC President Muhammad Aslam Malik said the minister had illegally occupied the club and warned of dire consequences if the club was not vacated.

The journalists had contacted the local authorities on the issue but their request has fallen on deaf ears, he said.

Aslam has called upon Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to take notice of the minister’s atrocities and requested Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry for taking suo moto notice of the incident.

A large number of people, including the local PPP leader Qambar Bohar, STP leader Zahid Hussain, Tehrik-e-Insaf leader Ghulam Rasool Farouqi and Citizens Action Committee Chairman Hameed Thaheem visited the camp and assured support to the journalists.
