On June 20, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar emphasized the responsible use of social media platforms, including TikTok, and called for discouraging their negative use.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to the residence of slain TikToker Sana Yousaf in Islamabad, the minister said the entire nation is deeply saddened by the tragic death of the 17-year-old social media influencer.

Tarar offered condolences to Sana Yousaf’s family and said both the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister had taken strict notice of the murder. He praised the Islamabad Police for their swift investigation and prompt arrest of the accused, Umar Hayat, who was apprehended within hours of the incident.

The information minister said the accused must be awarded the strictest punishment to set an example, adding that this case should serve as a test case to deter such crimes in the future.

He said the family had a capable legal team and a strong case, adding that the Lawyers’ Forum would provide support to ensure there are no gaps in the prosecution or trial process.
