Islamabad Police introduced a comprehensive social media policy banning the use of social media for officers and officials across all ranks; violations are subject to departmental action.
The policy, approved by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Headquarters, bars personnel from speaking at public forums, publishing articles or issuing statements on social media without prior approval. It also prohibits taking photographs or recording videos in police uniform, whether at government premises or private locations, for personal publicity.
Personnel are also prohibited from sharing or disseminating confidential or official documents and content on social media or other media platforms. The policy also restricts personnel from expressing personal, political or religious views through any media channel.
Unit heads will be responsible for monitoring compliance, while the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office remains the sole authorised channel for disseminating information about police activities. The policy takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.
