JACOBABAD: A large number of journalists took out a protest rally and observed hunger strike in front of the Jacobabad Press Club on the third consecutive day on Friday, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in a dacoity at journalist Mukesh Rupeta’s house some five months ago.
The protesting journalists, led by the president of the press club Pervaiz Abro and senior journalist Mumtaz Hussain Mangherio, chanted slogans against the police failure to arrest the criminals, and later took to the city streets. At the district police headquarters, the journalists staged a sit-in and raised slogans against the police.
The journalists strongly condemned the police attitude, saying they had failed in protecting the life and property of citizens and nobody was safe in Jacobabad.
A dacoity was committed at the house of Mukesh Rupeta, the correspondent of The News and Geo TV, some five months ago. The police seem reluctant to take action against the criminals and no arrest has yet been made.
The journalists alleged that DPO Jacobabad Muneer Ahmed Khuhro was not cooperating with the journalists and instead harassing them on their demand to arrest the culprits.
