MULTAN- Jama’at-i-Islami (JI) Multan staged a demonstration against killing of journalists in various parts of the world. Dozens of Jama’at workers turned up at Bismillah Chowk on Masoom Shah Road to mark Press Freedom Day and they chanted slogans condemning torture against newsmen.
They were also holding placards and banners denouncing tactics of dictators against freedom of Press. The demonstration was led by Kh. Ubaidur Rehman, Amir JI Multan.
While addressing the demonstrators, he said that 37 journalists had been killed in various countries of the world during the last year. He said that the journalists were determined to make the people aware of real situation. However, he regretted, dictators have always tried to impose restrictions on means of mass communication as they are afraid of Press freedom.
He said that the freedom of Press not only spread awareness among the masses but also provided an opportunity to the rulers to mend their ways.
Kh. Ubaidur Rehman also asked the journalist community to shunt out black sheep from its ranks, who were defaming this sacred profession through blackmailing.
He said that the media should play its positive role for establishment of peace in the world.
