Journalist Panel Dominates Lahore Press Club Elections 2026; Arshad Ansari Retains Presidency

On January 26, the Journalist Panel secured a majority in the Lahore Press Club elections for 2026, with Arshad Ansari re-elected as president. The annual elections produced decisive wins for the panel across key positions, according to the official results.

Ansari received 1,283 votes, defeating Grand Alliance candidate Azam Chaudhry, who obtained 711 votes. For the senior vice president’s position, the Journalist Panel’s Salman Qureshi won with 1,125 votes, while the Grand Alliance’s Saima Nawaz received 839.

The position of General Secretary was clinched by Afzal Taleb of the Journalist Panel with 1059 votes, defeating Grand Alliance’s Abdul Majeed Sajid who received 814 votes and independent candidate Ejaz Mirza, who managed 103 votes. Similarly, Imran Sheikh from the Journalist Panel was elected as Joint Secretary with 1002 votes, defeating Rana Muhammad Akram of the Grand Alliance, who received 959 votes.

For the Treasurer position, Salik Nawaz of the Journalist Panel was re-elected with 1035 votes, outpacing Hasnain Chaudhry from the Grand Alliance who collected 926 votes. The Vice President’s position saw Nasirah Atiq from the Grand Alliance win with 1045 votes, followed by Mudasir Hussain Tatla of the Journalist Panel with 882 votes.

Madiha Almas, also from the Journalist Panel, succeeded in the women’s Vice President seat with 986 votes, narrowly defeating Grand Alliance’s Samina Pasha, who secured 956 votes.

In the elections for the Governing Body, the Journalist Panel achieved substantial success, securing 8 of 9 general seats. Syed Sajad Kazmi topped the list with 936 votes, followed by Khwaja Sarmad Farukh with 806 votes, and Ilfat Hussain Mughal with 770 votes. The minority seat on the Governing Body was won by Asher Jan of the Journalist Panel, who received 860 votes.
