June 09 2006: The Kandhra police has arrested the family members of a newsman who unearthed a fraud committed by Director (legal) Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Karachi and his brother PDSP anti-corruption Sukkur who had acquired state land by declaring them as landless haris.

During the Sindh chief minister’s press conference, a journalist Ariz Mohammad Mirani pointed out that some government servants, including director ACE (legal) Mir
Safdar Hussain Talpur and PDSP ACE Sukkur Mir Arif Talpur and others had fraudulently acquired 300 acres of state land meant for landless haris in dehs Sunharo and Toryoon, taluka Salehpat, District Sukkur by declaring themselves landless haris. The chief minister ordered action against the officers but the Senior Member Board of Revenue Anwar Hyder requested the chief minister to allow him to conduct an inquiry personally to which the chief minister consented.

A few days after the press conference, PDSP ACE Mir Arif Talpur and his henchmen set. journalist Ariz Mohammad Mirani and his relatives houses on fire in village Roshanabad, taluka Rohri at 11.30pm. The villagers came out and fire fighters were also called who extinguished the fire but by that time half of Arbab Ali Mirani’s house was reduced to ash, his goats were roasted alive and the standing date trees were also completely burnt.

The Kandhra police reached the site and helped them to extinguish the fire. Later, they refused to register FIR because the SHO Kandhra Badar Bhutto was supporting the PDSP ACE Sukkur.

On June 5 the SHO Kandhra acting on the advice of PDSP Anti-Corruption Sukkur registered a case against Miranis, including journalist Ariz Mohammad Mirani, Shahid Ali and Nadim Ali, Rajib Ali and Javed Mirani and last night arrested them from their homes on June 6. The police in front of the village beat the arrested persons severely.
This is the justice the police is executing with the people in interior areas of Sindh which have turned into a police state.
