KARACHI: Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Abdul Qadir Halepota announced Monday a one-million-rupee cash award, on behalf of the Sindh Government, for noted Urdu poet and intellectual Jamiluddin Aali.

He made this announcement while addressing a ceremony hosted in honour of Jamiluddin Aali under the auspices of the Sindh Ombudsman at a local hotel. The chief minister said that life achievement awards will be given to writers every year and noted that Aali was continuing Baba-e-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq’s mission. Talking about the forthcoming elections, Mr. Halepota said that the caretaker set up will not allow any kind of rigging. He urged people to go to the polling stations and fully use their right to vote.

Aali has been a columnist for daily Jang for over 38 years. His important works include Ghazlein, Dohey, Geet, La Hasel (Lyrics), Insaan (Poem, Drama). He has received the President’s Award for Pride of Performance, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second highest award in Pakistan, the Sant Kabir Award of the World Urdu Conference and the International Annual Award of Canadian Academy of Urdu Language and Literature. ppi
