The Khyber District Press Club in Landi Kotal condemned a police raid on its premises, calling for an independent and impartial inquiry into the incident.
According to reports, several masked individuals wearing police uniforms entered the District Press Club Khyber on the evening of October 25. The individuals allegedly searched rooms and the conference hall before leaving, causing distress among journalists present. The press club members described the incident as an attempt to intimidate journalists and undermine press freedom.
At an emergency meeting on October 26 chaired by President Aman Ali Shinwari, members unanimously called for an investigation and decided to boycott police-related events and stop publishing news about Landi Kotal police until the inquiry is completed.
The journalists expressed their gratitude to the Jamrud Press Club, Bara Press Club, political and social figures, and journalist organisations for condemning the incident and supporting the press community.
The meeting also highlighted the increasingly challenging and dangerous conditions faced by journalists and human rights defenders across the region, from Khyber to Waziristan.
The journalists also called on media organisations and press freedom bodies to support journalists at risk and urged authorities to ensure their safety and protect press freedom.
