ISLAMABAD: A three-day exhibition of products prepared by home-based workers of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) opened at Lok Virsa here on Friday.

As many as 60 stalls have been set up which will remain open from 11am to 10pm daily.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa department of social welfare and women development in collaboration with Lok Virsa has arranged the event.

Federal Minister for Population Welfare Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Minister for Special Initiatives Lal Khan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Sitara Ayaz inaugurated the exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Awan said it was a good initiative on part of Lok Virsa and the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to promote and project handicraft and cottage industry of the province.

She said the exhibition would provide a unique opportunity to the home-based artisans not only to market their products at the national level but also sell them directly to the public without involvement of the middleman.

The minister said the PPP-led government was committed to taking all-out efforts for the welfare and uplift of the masses, particularly women, to enable them to contribute effectively to the development of the country.

Executive Director Lok Virsa Khalid Javed said about 120 male and female workers from the 24 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had put their products on display.

The products include various items of embroidery, jewellery, bed covers, shoes, bags, key-chains and tablecloths.
