RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Thursday will take up a contempt of court petition filed by certain cable operators against Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) for allegedly violating its rules and regulations in award of new licences.

Justice Ijaz Ahmed will take up the petition filed by Pasban Cable Network alleging Pemra had been defying the earlier order of the IHC while issuing new cable operating licences.

Meanwhile, DHA-I Teleman, a cable operator and one of the respondents in the petition, clarified a news item published in Dawn on April 23 that the defunct Islamabad High Court (IHC) had cancelled its licences.

In a statement, it said the IHC in its July 10, 2009, decision had not cancelled its licence rather directed Pemra to follow rules and regulations while awarding licences in future.
