Muhammad Ayub, son of Dawn senior sports reporter Muhammad Yaqoob, passed away on September 8 at the age of 32 following complications from a brain haemorrhage. Ayub, a professional swimming trainer, had undergone surgery at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) around 10 days earlier.
Ayub, who is survived by his widow and young son, was laid to rest at Shershah Graveyard near GOR-III in Lahore. His funeral was attended by journalists, friends and members of the sports community.
The Qul for Ayub was scheduled to be held after Zuhr prayers at a mosque near his father’s residence.
Condolences were expressed by former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairmen Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf, former Information Secretary Amjad Hussain, the Sports Journalists Association and several sports organisations, including the Athletics Federation of Pakistan, Lahore Regional Cricket Association and Pakistan Football Federation.
The sports community prayed for Ayub’s forgiveness and eternal peace and expressed solidarity with his family.
