The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting held a meeting on September 3 at the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) headquarters, chaired by MNA Pullain Baloch, where it discussed delayed salaries of media workers, outstanding payments to media outlets and other regulatory matters.

The committee directed the Press Information Department (PID) to provide details of payments made to print and electronic media outlets, including outstanding dues and pending claims.

It also sought a report on the delayed PBC shortwave transmitter project in Karachi’s Landhi area, including the reasons for the delay, financial status and expected completion timeline.

The committee directed PEMRA to draft a code of conduct for morning television shows covering content, language, treatment of sensitive issues and guest participation, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.

PEMRA was also asked to provide details of television channels’ outstanding liabilities and recovery measures.

The committee emphasised the importance of introducing programmes and news bulletins in all regional languages on Radio Pakistan to reflect the country’s diverse linguistic landscape.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Asia Naz Tanoli, Shaheen, Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Syed Amin Ul Haque, Rana Ansar, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Barrister Danyal Chaudhary, as well as the Parliamentary Secretary for Information, Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Chairperson PEMRA and other PBC and PEMRA officials.
