The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) dismissed a widely circulated cybersecurity notification as fake and misleading, confirming it had not issued any such alert.
The fake notice falsely claimed that answering a call from a specific landline number could hack mobile phone data and online accounts within five to seven seconds.
The PTA urged the public not to share unverified warnings and advised citizens to rely only on its official social media accounts and verified channels for cybersecurity alerts and updates.
The authority also highlighted its official channel for reporting fraudulent calls and SMS messages and urged citizens to verify such claims before forwarding them
