On January 23, the National Assembly of Pakistan addressed concerns about the unavailability of its official YouTube channel, confirming that the channel had not been shut down but was experiencing temporary technical issues. This clarification came after reports surfaced suggesting that the channel had disappeared, particularly during a time when parliamentary proceedings were not broadcast live as usual.
According to an official statement released on the social media platform X, the disruption was due to a social media server outage that temporarily affected accessibility. The issues were resolved, and the channel resumed normal operation, with the proceedings of the joint session of Parliament being uploaded and accessible to the public.
The confusion arose when the official YouTube channel, @NationalAssemblyOfPakistan, became inaccessible on January 21. This interruption coincided with the absence of live streaming for the subsequent parliamentary sittings on January 21 and January 22. It was noted that an alternative channel, @NaofPakistan, appeared recently but had minimal content and subscribers. The main channel, which previously had thousands of subscribers and regularly uploaded videos, was not appearing in search results and could not be accessed globally, even via Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
The developments coincided with the joint session summoned by President Asif Ali Zardari, during which Parliament passed three bills previously returned unsigned by the president: the National Commission for Human Rights Amendment Bill, 2025; the Daanish Schools Authority Bill, 2025; and the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Bill, 2025. The bills had earlier been approved by both houses before being returned by the Presidency last month.
