NANKANA SAHIB – An oath-taking and award giving ceremony was held at the Sports Club here.
After taking oath by the newly-elected District Press Club office-bearers for 2012, remarkable personalities who got wonderful achievements in the field of social, political, religious, education, health etc for the betterment of masses of the area or for the country were distributed awards.
Those won awards included Dr Abdul Hayie, Madsar Lone, Dr Ghulam Nabi Shakir, Sufi Anwer Madni, Engr Sh Shahid Mahmood, Khan Baber Khan, Khaild Mahmood, Rai M Khan, Qari Iqbal, Sardar Janam Singh, Prof Tahir Yaqoob, master Abdul Majeed, Nooru Zaman Awasi, Atta Muhammad, Alhaj M Hussain Goher, Shahzad Khalid Khan, Bao Malik Zafar, Manzoor Ahmed Shad and Brig (r) Ijaz Ahmed Shah. Participants and remarkable personalities who were given life achievements awards said during their address that people of the area or any part of Pakistan are very talented and courageous and could work for the betterment of the society. But, they were of the view, special attention and encouragement should be given by the public and private sectors to tap their abilities. The speakers appreciated the press club’s efforts made for the betterment of common people regarding awards of life achievements.
The father award was given to a Atta Muhammad father of Dr Hafiz Imran who promoted the name of the country in America in medical studies by wining several international awards. Meanwhile, tears started rolling down the people’s eyes as they could not control their sentiments.
On the occasion, former Intelligence Bureau of Pakistan director general Brigadier (r) Ijaz Ahmed Shah as chief guest said that the media is the fourth pillar of the state and educating the public well to judge the government policies either good for the country or else. He congratulated the newly-elected office-bearers including Press Club President Asif Ali Bhatti, Senior Vice President Eng Shahid Mahmood, vice presidents Riaz Ahmed, Nisar Alvi, Asif Mahmood Nizami, Rao Tauqeerul Islam, Joint Secretary Qaiser Gujjer, Information Secretary Sh Asif and Finance Secretary Tahir Mahmood Hajvari.
The ceremony was also attended by notables of the district from every walk of life including former district Nazim Pir Mumtaz Shah, DBA President Haq Nawaz, Haji Abdul Hameed Rehmani, Muhib Nabi Tahir, Markazi Anjuman Tajran President M Tariq, Maulana Ishaq Saqi, Dr Rahim Din, Malik Mukhtar Awan, Ch M Ashraf and Allama Suleman Izhar.
