Newsmen, hawkers to observe black day on October 23

ISLAMABAD: Against the decision taken by the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), All Pakistan Hawkers Association and journalists staged a sit-in in front of the Parliament House and has announced to observe Monday as Black Day if the decision regarding cut down in Eid holidays is not withdrawn. According to details under the auspices of RIUJ, All Pakistan Hawkers Federation and Rawalpindi/Islamabad Press Club a protest demonstration started from camp office Melody on Saturday.

The protest demonstration was led by Chairman Apnec and President PFUJ Pervez Shaukat and Secretary General All Pakistan Hawkers Federation General Tikka Khan. The protestors reached the Parliament House after passing through Melody, Poly Clinic Hospital and Constitution Avenue. Tikka Khan said that today because of a single wrong decision of the APNS all workers related to the newspaper industry had united adding that in the next few days measures would be taken for giving permanent shape to a joint forum for the solution of the problems of the workers employed in the newspaper industry. So that end to employment on contracts, non-payment of salaries, forced labour and to stop the process of ‘downsizing’ in addition to the implementation of the Wage Award. He categorically said that it is our unanimous decision that we will take two-day leave at all cost.
