Legal proceedings have been initiated by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against M/s M-Tel Communications (Private) Limited, Lahore, after the company failed to clear its outstanding financial obligations.
The action comes after three post-dated cheques, amounting to Rs 7,575,000, submitted by the company were returned unpaid by the bank. PEMRA officials confirmed that M/s M-Tel Communications has a total of Rs 33,645,963 pending in dues.
Despite multiple reminders and the authority’s leniency in accepting post-dated cheques, the company did not fulfill its payment commitments. As a result, PEMRA has applied with the relevant police station under Section 33(3) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002, as amended by the PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2023.
Additionally, the matter has been forwarded under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code 1860 to initiate criminal proceedings against the company.
PEMRA has cautioned all license holders to adhere to payment deadlines and warned that any failure to do so will lead to strict legal consequences under the regulatory framework.
