On July 22, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) released an advisory instructing telecom service providers to ensure uninterrupted communication services and activate emergency protocols.
According to the PTA announcement, all operators have been directed to maintain service continuity, secure network infrastructure in vulnerable areas, and provide critical updates to the public. The advisory also requires immediate reporting of major technical disruptions and submission of restoration updates every six hours.
The PTA has established the National Emergency Telecommunication Coordination Centre (NETCC) to supervise emergency operations and coordinate real-time efforts through designated contact points at its headquarters and zonal offices.
Telecom companies have been instructed to disseminate flood-related alerts, evacuation details, and emergency contacts in national and regional languages to support public safety.
Operators must also ensure essential services such as SIM card issuance, balance recharge, and complaint handling remain operational. Trained personnel are to be deployed in field operations, and temporary mobile units should be positioned in severely affected locations.
The advisory further directs local loop operators to activate franchises for customer support and to assign staff at mobile top-up facilities.
“In the event of any major technical failure, operators must inform PTA Headquarters without delay,”the advisory reads.
According to the advisory, PTA is monitoring the situation closely and will continue providing updates on service restoration in flood-hit areas.
