Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled a landmark initiative to support the journalist community: allotting 3,200 residential plots for journalists.
In a recent meeting with Provincial Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the Information Ministry to take swift steps toward establishing “Journalist Colony Lahore Phase Two.” She emphasized that all necessary legal processes should be completed promptly to ensure an efficient and transparent allocation of plots within the new “Journalist Housing Scheme Phase Two.”
Maryam Nawaz highlighted the crucial role of journalists in society, comparing the relationship between journalists and the government to “two wheels of the same vehicle.” She clarified that the provision of plots was not intended as a favor but as a rightful entitlement of the journalist community.
She assured that the allocation process would be conducted on a merit basis, strictly adhering to legal criteria, ensuring that every journalist receives a fair opportunity.
Additionally, the Punjab Information Ministry has announced plans to invite applications from journalists in Lahore, including members of the Lahore Press Club. A formal advertisement is anticipated to initiate the application process in the coming days.
