SIALKOT: Daska police on Thursday arrested a man after a minor rape victim identified him as her abductor and rapist during an identification parade.
District Police Officer Waqar Ahmad Chohan told a press conference held at Daska ASP office the victim girl identified Abdul Razzaq, 28, as the man who abducted her from near her Hameed Colony house on April 26 and raped her at his outhouse.
The DPO said the police had produced six suspects before the girl during an identification parade.
He said the accused took the girl to his havelli (outhouse) located in Daska’s congested Islampura locality near Eidgah, where he raped her and later threw her in the fields near Chak Gillan village, considering her dead.
The victim was found lying unconscious in the fields by some locals who brought her to the hospital.
The DPO said the DNA test of the accused was being conducted to ascertain his involvement in the crime.
He said the police had also arrested some accused in connection with kidnap-cum-rape of another minor girl. However, their names were not being disclosed for the time being for investigation purposes.
The DPO said the police had also arrested the three main accused, who allegedly raped and murdered seven-year-old ‘K’, after abducting her form near her house in Begowala village of Sambrial tehsil a few days back.
Additional SP Athar Ismail, SP (Investigation) Ali Javaid Malik and senior member of the district peace committee Zafar Malik were also present at the press conference.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had given a 72-hour deadline to police for the arrest of the culprits during his visit to the victim’s house.
DPO: The Lahore High Court chief justice was told on Thursday that another accused involved in kidnap and rape of seven minor girls and boys in Daska had been arrested, our Lahore reporter adds.
Accused Razzaq was arrested on the identification of one of the victim girls, Mst Fatima, who had taken the police to the outhouse of the accu- sed where she was allegedly raped, a report submitted by the Sialkot DPO said.
It further said the DNA test of the arrested accused was being conducted to ascertain his involvement in the rape of another victim Farwa Zainab.
The DPO requested the court to dispose of suo motu proceedings, but the CJ turned down the plea and directed him to inform the court on May 27 about further investigation in the case.
On the last hearing, the court was informed that six accused had already been arrested while efforts were being made for the arrest of the remaining accused.
The chief justice had taken suo motu notice on a news item appeared in an English daily and converted it into a petition under Article 199 (1)(c) of the Constitution.
