ISLAMABAD- The Nigerian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Ambassador A.D. Idris Waziri has extended heartiest greetings and warm wishes to Pakistani editors, journalists, media workers and publishers on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
According to Nigerian High Commission press release, Idris Waziri said the present Democratic Administration of Nigeria strongly believes in the complete freedom of press and the Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has taken various initiatives to guarantee freedom of press in Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The High Commissioner added that he has great respect and regard for Pakistani journalistic and appealed to Pakistani media men to join hands with him in further cementing brotherly ties and co-operation in the areas of trade, commerce, industry and Information Technology between Federal Republic of Nigeria and Islamic Republic of Pakistan to serve the cause of South-South Co-operation.
Idris Waziri also appealed both the Government and the media to work hand in hand as partners of progress.
It is only when there is an understanding and co-operation between the Government and the Press that the people can better be informed and understand government’s progress and policies which is very necessary for peace, stability and development.
“May I once more congratulate the Press and Media Organisations of Pakistan on this great and the wonderful job they are doing and wish more success in helping the government to move Pakistan forward,” the Ambassador added.
