On June 1, veteran journalist Mazhar Sheikh passed away at the age of 62, a day after undergoing bypass surgery at a private hospital in Islamabad. Although the surgery was successful, his health deteriorated the following day and he passed away.

Mazhar Sheikh had served in multiple media organisations over the course of his career. These included Pakistan Observer, Kainat, Asas, and Jahan Pakistan. He also worked with Khabrain and Channel 5 for approximately 16 years.

Zaman Mughal, a close friend and former colleague, said Sheikh was known for his in-depth reporting and held significant knowledge within his reporting beat. He added that Sheikh was elected president of the Islamabad Crime Reporters Association (ICRA) due to his seniority and reputation in the field.

His funeral prayer and burial were held at Eidgah graveyard in Rawalpindi. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
